How Does PRP Therapy Work?
After you’re comfortably seated in one of our private procedure chairs, we will draw about four tablespoons of blood from your arm. Next, the blood is placed in a centrifuge machine. After approximately 15 minutes on the centrifuge machine, the components of your blood separate, and we place your platelet-rich plasma into a sterile syringe. The plasma is then injected into the designated areas of the face. Typically, PRP injections take about five minutes to complete, but it can vary for each patient.
What Can I Expect After PRP Therapy?
PRP therapy promotes the production of elastin and collagen to help your skin look tauter and more youthful. Because PRP therapy utilizes your blood, there is no risk of allergic or adverse reactions. However, your face may look a little red after the treatment because some red blood cells may be included within the plasma injection. To minimize discomfort or minor swelling near the injection sites, patients can apply a cold compress. Dr. Mang recommends receiving treatments every 4 – 6 weeks to maintain your results.
Tampa, FL PRP Therapy FAQ
How Much Does PRP Therapy Cost?
Your cost for PRP therapy will be dependent on the area being treated as well as if it is performed with another treatment. Your technician will come up with a cost estimate in your initial consultation and then review any specials we are offering.
How Long Do Results from PRP Therapy Last?
PRP therapy has been known to last for 4 – 8 weeks. The longevity of the results will vary in every patient and depends on the area being treated. The benefit of PRP therapy is that it doesn’t require incisions or lengthy downtime, plus it is more affordable.
What Are the Risks and Complications of PRP Therapy?
Possible side effects of PRP on its own are mild and include prolonged bruising and swelling. When combined with microneedling, possible risks include skin infection, pigment changes, and delayed healing. That’s why it’s important to have microneedling performed by an experienced practitioner who has studied the process.
Will PRP Help Replenish Volume?
PRP therapy cannot increase volume in areas like your cheeks and lips. Although PRP treatments offer stunning results since it rejuvenates the appearance of the complexion and helps promote the production of elastin and collagen, PRP treatments are not meant to replenish volume. If you wish to contour areas on the face that have lost volume, you may be a better candidate for dermal fillers.
Is PRP Therapy Painful?
Injections of PRP serum feel similar to a dermal filler or BOTOX® injection but with the additional step of extracting the plasma. Usually, most patients feel a little pinch or pressure at the time of injection. If you’re worried about feeling pain, ask if you can receive local anesthesia.
Can I Return to Work Immediately After PRP Therapy?
Yes, most patients can return to work immediately after undergoing PRP therapy. This treatment involves minimal downtime, allowing you to resume daily activities right after your session. However, it’s advisable to avoid strenuous activities for the first 24 to 48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising. During your consultation, our team will provide specific aftercare instructions based on the area treated and your overall health.
